Cordon Negro Brut is crisp, clean, and well balanced. It is medium-bodied with a palate of apple, pear and bright citrus flavors with a moderately long finish and a crisp touch of ginger. This wine is extremely versatile and pairs well with most food.
Wine Enthusiast 88 points - Keeps the Cordon Negro reputation healthy by delivering easygoing lemon-lime aromas and round citrus and apple flavors. As correct as one can ask for, this large-production cava features pure-fruit character and a perfectly good mouthfeel. For the money, we give it the proverbial high-five. M.S. (Dec 2006)

Founded in 1861, Freixenet is one of the largest Cava houses in Spain similar in size to Moet & Chandon in France. The production business started in 1914 by Pere Ferrer Bosch, the son of "La Freixenada." In 1941, the house launched Carta Nevad and then "Cordon Negro."

Winemaker, Josep Bujan, has been the technical director of the winery since 1980. He is responsible for developing and refining the technical procedures that have allowed methode champenoise of Freixenet to become popular all over the world. Bujan has established himself as one of Spain's most active enologists.

Backed by over 150 years of family-owned wine expertise, Freixenet’s exquisite cavas, artfully produced in the methode champenoise tradition, are Spanish sparkling wines of distinction that began their story with love. The romantic union of two of Spain’s oldest winemaking families began with a wedding that also brought the wineries under one roof as a business. Prospering through all of life’s joys, and enduring its sorrows, the Freixenet winery transformed its small start into a name known around the world. Gracefully gathering compliments, awards, and millions of cava fans, Freixenet applies the highest standards in winemaking for consistent quality and value. The third and fourth generations of the Ferrer family continue to attend to all the details that make their cavas the world’s preferred sparkling wines.
