Simi Winery was founded by brothers Guiseppe and Pietro Simi in 1876. The first stone cellar was completed in 1890. 14 years later, the cellar was doubled in size. Following the death of both brothers, Guiseppe’s daughter, Isabella, took over the winery in 1904. During prohibition, Isabella and her husband continued making wine and storing it. In 1933, following prohibition, they had a large supply of fine cellared wines to sell. Isabella retired in 1970 at the age of 84. She sold the winery but still resides on the estate.
Steve Reeder, the winemaker, joined Simi in 2003 after 26 years of working at Alexander Valley Vineyards. He is the son of an Airforce pilot and a3rd generation Californian. Steve has always been fascinated with the fermentation process.
