The Florio Winery was founded in 1833 by Vincenzo Florio and his family of entrepreneurs. In the past the family always had great success businesses such as tuna fisheries, a shipping company, foundries and a ceramics factory. Their triumphs even lead to a car race called Targa Florio being named after them. The winery had a hard start taking 20 years to turn profit, but their successes were heard loud and clear in 1998 when ILLVA S.P.A bought it, taking the winery to the top of its market. Today Florio Dry Marsala is imported by V B Importo and bottle production is up to 79,000 cases.
