Jean Bonnet of Chateau Calissanne is one of Provence’s most brilliant winemakers and viticulturists. For over 20 years, he has been developing this beautiful, sprawling estate that sits beneath Le Mont Victoire. Vines have been planted at Chateau Calissanne since Roman times; there are the remains of Roman buildings, used to house field workers, within the both the olive groves and vines of Chateau Calissanne. Bonnet has old-vine holdings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, and Clairette, an indigenous white varietal. He has younger vines of Syrah and Mourvedre. Both the olive trees and grape vines are naturally farmed. The soil is a mixture of clay, limestone, and sandstone.
