The estate of Domaine Rion owns 37 acres in 14 different appellations including Nuits-St.-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny and Clos Vougeot. Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils is a family owned estate that was created in 1955 by Daniel Rion. After Daniel retired his sons took over the business. Today the winery is 45 acres and has 18 appellation within 6 villages of Cote des Nuits and the Hautes-Cotes; Premeaux, Nuits Saint Georges, Cosne Romanee, Chamolle Musigny, Vaugeot and Marey les Fussey. The vineyards are naturally farmed with severe crop thinning in most vintages to insure high-quality grapes. In general, the vines are old, averaging between 25 and 65 years. 75% of the wines are exported to the United States, Great Britain, Japan, Germany and Switzerland. All wines are transported in cold refrigeration in order to preserve the wine. Oliver Rion is the current winemaker and he is an extremely friendly and modest winemaker who believes in natural tending of the vineyards and great sophistication in the cellar. He crafts wines that have intense aromas, wonderful extraction and powerful structure yet maintain an underlying elegance and grace that are benchmarks for their appellations. Passion Vines is pleased not only to offer such fabulous wines from Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils, but that we work with Petit Pois Corporation who bring these wines to us at the perfect temperature.
