A clean, elegant expression of the varietal, this is a ripe balanced wine, with tree blossom and lemon citrus flavors leading to a firm, structured palate punctuated by discreet oak notes ending in a toasty, creamy finish.
Sequoia Grove Vineyards was first established as a small pioneer community during the gold rush days. It sits on 22 acres in the heart of Napa Valley. The president of the company is Michael Trujillo who joined the company in 1982. The winemaker is Molly Hill who oversees daily operations and quality control. Together Michael and Molly share a passion for excellence.
Passion Vines had the opportunity to visit Sequoia Grove during the harvest of 2008 and we saw firsthand how their wines are made and the extreme passion they put into it. It was an impression experience and we thank the winery for allowing us to visit.
| Wine maker notes |
| The winemaker focuses on capturing the natural fruit intensity of Chardonnay. The grapes are soft pressed immediately after harvest and fermented without prior skin contact. Fermentation goes on for 21 days, with 15 percent of the lots fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 55°F and 85 percent in barrels. The wines do not undergo malolactic fermentation, and, depending on the vintage, between 50 and 60 percent of the lots are aged ”sur lie” without racking from the fruit and yeast debris. Bottling takes place without fining. |
