Bodegas El Nido is joint venture involving the Gil family, owners of Bodegas Juan Gil, U.S. importers Jorge Ordoñez and Dan Phillips, and Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. The goal was to showcase the potential of the Jumilla region by creating a couple of superconcentrated, liqueur-like, international-style wines, both blends of Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon. The bottling labeled El Nido is the top selection from the estate, and the Clio is the outstanding second wine.

| 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The 2006 El Nido is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell aged for 26 months in new oak. Aromas of wild blueberry and black currant are room-filling. Dense, layered, and has serous depth and concentration, impeccable balance, and a 60-second finish. A bit more structured than Clio, it will have a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2026. Bodegas El Nido employs Aussie vigneron Chris Ringland as its winemaking consultant." |
| Wine maker notes |
| Well-known Australian winemaker, Chris Ringland, oversees the winemaking at Bodegas El Nido, fashioning intriguing reds with great depth as well as richness. These wines have broken all the parameters previously established by the backwater appellation of Jumilla.
