Dick Vermeil and Paul Smith, winemaker for Vermeil Wines and founder of OnThEdge Winery together are working on the Dick Vermeil Wines project. The famous Cabernet Sauvignon is dedicated to Dick's two great-grandfathers, Jean Louis Vermeil, who brought the family name to San Francisco, and Garibaldi Iaccheri, the person responsible for introducing the Vermeils to Calistoga and the Napa Valley. The family property is now part of the Frediani Vineyards. Vermil's appreciation for wine came from his father, Jean Louis Vermeil II, and grandfather, Albert Vermeil. Grandfather Al Vermeil made all the Vermeil Family wines with grapes from the very same properties that produce the Vermeil wine of today. Dick's early passion for wine would have never lasted without it being continually reinforced by the Frediani Family and Paul Smith of OnThEdge Winery.

Wine maker notes
Crafting Vermeil Wines is a talented winemaker and OnThEdge Winery founder, Paul Smith. Paul has 30 years of experience in the wine field. He has held technical and management positions with companies including Joseph Phelps Vineyards and Robert Mondavi Corporation. During Paul’s 17 years with Mondavi, he was responsible for the technical development, facility design and project management of several internationally recognized wines such as Opus One. What Paul has achieved as a one-man operation to date is truly remarkable. With a new set of advanced tools at his disposal, it is thrilling to consider the potential for future Vermeil Wines offerings.
