You would be hard-pressed to find a region anywhere in the world with the ability to express terroir the way Burgundy can. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are sensitive to where they are grown, meaning that slight variations in soil composition and aspect to the sun can lead to a completely different wine experience...even if those vines are just yards away! Judicious use of wood aging provides an extra dimension to the wines without overwhelming the delicate fruit. Additionally, be sure to check out Beaujolais; these lively wines made from the red Gamay grape are very satisfying with a hearty meal.
